Before you start to implement the PSA, make sure your jurisdiction is ready and positioned to succeed. You’ll need:
Use the Guide to Pretrial Advancement Readiness to assess whether your jurisdiction is ready to implement the PSA.
“It is so important to make sure you have the right people in the room before you even start the implementation conversation. One of the ways you do this is really think about every single person or agency that this project is going to touch and make sure they have someone there.”
– Jessica IrelandAlthough the PSA is just a single tool, a jurisdiction must complete multiple activities to successfully implement it. Ideally, members of your collaborative policy team are involved in and approve all implementation activities and deliverables. To properly score and use the PSA, your jurisdiction must:
The PSA Implementation Guides are designed to help you complete these activities. The guides are organized by the seven phases of the implementation process. Each guide describes an implementation task and provides instructions, examples, and templates that can be adapted for use in your jurisdiction.
How do I go about implementing the PSA? Can I get assistance?
There are two options for jurisdictions seeking assistance with implementing the PSA and other pretrial improvements.
Rely on the PSA Implementation Guides to plan and manage the implementation process. If you have questions along the way, you can ask the APPR Community. You can also seek assistance from PSA experts through the APPR Help Desk.
Our Training Library offers several PSA trainings. Register with APPR to receive news about future PSA-related training.
Some jurisdictions may have the capacity to ask individuals with specialized expertise for help with part or all of the PSA implementation process. APPR has assembled a list of TA providers who have attended PSA training sessions. Being included on the list doesn’t mean that a TA provider is qualified, certified, or otherwise recommended by APPR or Arnold Ventures (AV). Neither APPR nor AV endorses any particular individual or organization over another. This list provides a starting point for jurisdictions looking to identify consultants with knowledge of both the PSA and, potentially, broader pretrial justice improvements.
